Who we are

The Tai Chi Walker is an independent editorial website at thetaichiwalker.com. To contact us about privacy, use the contact form and say that your message is a privacy request.

Messages you send

When you use the contact form we receive what you enter: your name, your email address and your message. We use this to read and reply to your message and, if it leads to further correspondence about contributing or a partnership, to continue that conversation.

Our lawful basis is our legitimate interest in responding to people who contact us.

Messages are delivered to our email, and a copy is kept on the web server so that nothing is lost if email delivery fails. Messages our filter identifies as spam are kept in that copy but not forwarded. We keep messages for up to 24 months after our last contact with you, and then delete them.

To limit abuse of the form, a one-way hash of your connection’s IP address is kept for up to an hour. It cannot be turned back into the address.

Visiting this website

This website uses no advertising or cross-site tracking. Fonts and images are served from this website itself.

To understand which articles are read and how visitors find the site, we use Google Analytics, but only if you agree. When you first visit, a message asks whether you accept analytics cookies.

• Before you choose, or if you reject them, Google Analytics is not loaded at all: it sets no cookies and nothing is sent to Google. If your browser sends a Global Privacy Control signal, we treat it as a refusal and don’t ask.
• If you accept, it sets the cookies _ga and _ga_R61FJTK5LV, which last up to 13 months, so repeat visits can be counted. Google processes information such as the pages you view, how you arrived, your device and browser, and your approximate location.
• No advertising. Advertising features, Google signals and ad personalisation stay off.

Google acts as our processor for Google Analytics and may process this information outside the UK. Your choice is kept for 6 months in a cookie called cookie_consent, and you can change it at any time with “Cookie settings” at the foot of every page. If you withdraw consent, Google Analytics stops straight away and its cookies are deleted. So that we can show what was agreed, we keep a record of each choice for 12 months: a random ID that isn’t linked to you, your choices, the page, the date and time, and your IP address with the last part removed.

Like most websites, our server records technical details of each request – including the IP address, the page requested, the time and the browser’s user agent – to keep the site secure and working properly. These logs are kept for a short period and then deleted.

The website is hosted in the United Kingdom and delivered through Cloudflare, which protects it against attacks and abuse and processes IP addresses to do so.

Sharing

We do not sell personal information or share it for marketing. It is processed on our behalf only by the providers needed to run this website and our email.

Your rights

You can ask for a copy of the personal information we hold about you, and ask us to correct it, delete it or stop using it. You also have the right to complain to the Information Commissioner’s Office at ico.org.uk, although we would appreciate the chance to put things right first.

Changes

If we change how we handle personal information, we will update this page and the date above.
